In 2007 Beddington Cricket Club, in partnership with Chance to Shine, has looked to develop Cricket in local state schools.  As part of the scheme Beddington provides coaching during lesson time, competitive opportunities against other schools as well as holiday coaching courses.

CTS1The schools taking part in the initiative are High View, Beddington Park, Holy Trinity, Stanley Park Juniors and Stanley Park High School.

The Cricket Foundation, an independent registered charity, launched Chance to Shine in May 2005.  It will set up sustainable cricket programmes in a third of all state schools in England and Wales by 2015 and introduce more than two million children to the game.  Find out more by visiting their website at www.chancetoshine.org.

Beddington's Chance to Shine Manager, Antony Down states “It is great to strengthen our links with the local community.  Many of these children would not have the chance to play cricket otherwise so our coaches love introducing them to the game.  We also hope that the children will want to become members of our club.”

The first of the holiday courses recently took place on Friday 1st June in the half term holiday.  This was a great success, and the weather ensured that everyone had a great day!
