Well, here we go again.  The 2007 season is already upon us and we trust that you have all enjoyed whatever sport or pastime has kept you busy throughout the winter.

I think we might call this the season of change and innovation. So much has been going on behind the scenes and we hope the membership will appreciate the amount of time and effort being spent on improving the club and its facilities.

First and foremost we have a new Chairman. After many years of service to the club, Ian Holleyman has stood down and although he has stopped playing, we hope we will see plenty of him during the season.  The new man at the helm is Andrew Tibble who has been an accomplished cricketer, including 37 years association with Beddington. He understands how a Cricket Club should run and I can assure you all that our club is in good hands as we wish him all the best in his first season as Chairman.

Our 1st X1 Captain is new but we must not forget all the hard work put in by Richard Milligan as we wish Richie Risebro all the very best in his new role. We also have a new Sunday 1st X1 captain in Dave White who takes over a set up which has been very successful in the last few years. Good luck Dave! Likewise , our overseas player is new and we extend the warmest Beddo welcome to Aaron O’Connor from Australia. Aaron is a top order batsman who can bowl a bit – may his runs be plentiful! We also have new kit provided this season by Pro Kit. The National Counties Building Society has provided new kit for our Sunday Development League side.

Our other major change is that Betty Hicks will no longer be looking after our teas. After feeding us all for in excess of 10 years, Betty has decided to call it a day. Thanks Betty for all you’ve done.  Our new Catering Manager will be Mrs Bernie Hargreaves to whom we also extend the warmest welcome.

So what else is new?  Well, the best way to find out is to come down to the club and see for yourself. Without giving you chapter and verse, there are big changes in the clubhouse, there will be changes outside the clubhouse on match days and , thanks to a brand new website, sweeping changes to the methods of communication between the committee and the club members. However, I hasten to add that the committee is aware that some people are not “website-trained” and we will continue to send out regular communications by letter or E-Mail whenever necessary. If you have an e-mail address and have not given it to us, please send it to me at once at the above address.

BEDDINGTON C.C. WEBSITE   ( www.beddingtoncc.co.uk)

This will undoubtedly be the single most influential change for many years. We have been threatening this for a while and at last it’s up and running.  Steve Cowlin is our official Website Manager/Guru and if you have any thoughts as to how we can improve the site, let Steve know. The website will contain all our fixtures, results, up to date information of forthcoming events and most importantly, the weekly team sheet will be posted here instead of being e-mailed to players each week. Take a look; I think you’ll get a pleasant surprise. Members wishing to use the website to promote club events should either contact Steve direct or phone the Hon.Secretary.

CONGRATULATIONS to Richie Risebro and Angela on their recent wedding – a true Beddo affair!

SUBSCRIPTIONS

Regular callers at the club will have picked up an envelope containing this letter, a Fixture Card, an application form for the 100 Club and a Confirmation Membership Form which you are asked to complete and return before the 31st May (to take advantage of early-season payment!). Others will have received this “package” in the post. Anyone else wishing to receive a Fixture Card in the post should contact me either by phone on 0208 395 2484 or by E-Mail on umpburty@blueyonder.co.uk

IF THERE ARE ANY MEMBERS WHO WERE NOT ON E-MAIL BEFORE BUT ARE NOW, PLEASE BE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN TO LET ME HAVE YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS ON THE ENCLOSED MEMBERSHIP FORM.  THIS, ALONG WITH THE WEBSITE, WILL BE THE PREFERRED METHOD OF COMMUNICATION ALTHOUGH WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEND OUT REGULAR BULLETINS TO THOSE WITHOUT THE FACILITY.

Subscriptions can be paid in various ways:

1)       As per the form – direct to Steve Cornell, the Assistant Secretary or

2)       Put in an envelope with the form and left with the Bar Secretary Paul Baker.

BEDDINGTON 100 CLUB

In the past this may not have been promoted to its best advantage. However, we urge you all to become involved in the 100 Club.  It costs only £20 a year (£5 a quarter) and there are big cash prizes to be won at our quarterly draws. The 100 Club has recently helped the club to purchase a number of essential items of equipment ( e.g. our new sight screens) and with your continued support will ensure that the club is suitably equipped for the future. Please give this your support.

SOME IMPORTANT DATES FOR YOUR DIARY.There are a number of important dates during the season about which you will be reminded nearer the time.  For starters though:

FRIDAY 4th MAY

To kick the season off, we are having a bonanza Cheese & Wine Party to which you are all invited

to attend free of charge. Your first glass of wine will be free and the bar will be open thereafter. So

please come along and catch up with all the news from your “summer friends”.

NO SMOKING.   Something else new! Members are reminded respectfully that a no smoking policy

anywhere inside the clubhouse will be in operation from 23rd April. Please do not cause embarrassment

to yourself or others by not complying with this regulation. Thank you. Suitable receptacles will be

placed outside and members are requested to use these rather than the floor.

Keep your eyes peeled, especially on the website, for news of future events at the club. Alan “Ronnie”

Carroll will once again be i/c Fundraising and I have little doubt that he will be in touch with you all

very soon.  On behalf of the committee, I wish you all a very happy and successful 2007 season.

CRICKET WEEK:   Monday July 9th – Friday July 13th. Darren Cuff will be i/c our entertainment.

YOUR NAME IS CURRENTLY ON THE BEDDINGTON CC MAILING LIST. SHOULD YOU WISH IT TO BE DELETED, PLEASE BE KIND ENOUGH TO LET ME KNOW EITHER BY PHONE OR E-MAIL (DETAILS ON FRONT PAGE). THANK YOU.
