Beddington Cricket Club was founded in the beautiful and extensive surrounds of Beddington Park in 1863 by the Rector of Beddington, Canon Bridges. Beddington soon gained a reputation as one of leading clubs in Surrey and attracted the great players of the era such as Dr W.G.Grace and Jack Hobbs into playing there. There have been a number of famous first class cricketers who have played for Beddington including: Peter Loader (13 tests for England), Mike Murray (ex MCC President), John Hall and Arnold Long. Along with others, these players were responsible for Beddington winning the London Club Cricket Championship in 1952 and 1962, therefore becoming the top club in London. We were one of the founding members of the Surrey Championship in 1968. Beddington is very proud of its history but continues to look towards the future for success. Gary Butcher, Rupesh Amin and most recently Ryan Cummins have kept up Beddington’s tradition of producing first class cricketers
Beddington's Saturday league sides ply their trade in the Travelbag Surrey Championship, boasting an impressive 5 competitive league sides. The current 1st XI gained promotion to the ECB Premier Division in 2014 and survived relegation in a nervy end to the 2015 season but suffering relegation in 2016. Beddington also have a strong Sunday contingent, A Sunday 1st XI who play in the 40-over coloured clothing Surrey Trust League along with the National Knock-out cup and the Travelbag Surrey Championship Twenty20 Cup. We also put out 2 Sunday friendly sides, who play a full fixture list to other sides every weekend of the season who have been known to play into October!
Beddington is a family spirited club with a whole host of family generations signed up as members. We pride ourselves on our reputation as being a community club with a strong social background to go along with the playing side. There is no discrimination at our club and we welcome all new/potential members as well as guests/visitors of our club.
The club are very proud of our Colts setup who play in the reputable NEC League, we also host their NEC Summer Festivals, thanks to our fantastic facilities and volunteers. During the Summer, there is not a Friday night where there isn't an abundance of young players training. The colts are coached by Plus Sports Coaching who do a superb job in coaching our young Lions and attracting new members by delivering Cricket in local schools and running holiday courses. Parents are very welcome to stay and watch training sessions and make use of the bar to unwind on a Friday night whilst their children are being coached. We host sides from U9s upto U15s who play on Friday evenings or Sunday mornings. In addition to our colts set-up, 2015 was the first year we trialled 'Cricket Tots', which is training for 4-7 year olds learning basic development skills to aid them into colts cricket when they are old enough.
If you would like to know more, please feel free to contact us. During the Cricket season, the club is open on Thursday evenings, Friday evenings and all day on Saturdays and Sundays, we welcome you to come down, visit and get a real insight into our great club.
